Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social interaction as well as personalized care. Services provided often include support with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, skilled nursing care, or “aging in place”. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, three daily meals and snacks must be provided, and Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission, The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative, and The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. Staff must obtain education in a variety of fields. These areas include supervision, standard precautions, staff training program based on the home’s program statement, and containment of infectious disease.
