Assisted living communities administer care, recreational activities, and oversight to individuals around 65 years old. Assisted living communities frequently provide aid with appointments and transportation, supervision of care, and opportunities for recreational activity. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission, service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, and service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident. Staff are required to obtain education in a variety of subjects. These include: personal care, first-aid, administration of medication, and staff training program based on the residents’ service plans. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervised personal care, medication management, supporting a resident’s personal and social needs, and being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and medication supervision and administration. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan.
