Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and assistance for people who may require support with things such as mobility or dressing. The services provided often include support with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer skilled nursing care, dementia care, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, medication reminders, and supervision of self-administered medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, medication administration, emergency response systems, and supervision of self-administered medications. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition. Staff are required to receive education in a number of fields. These areas include confidentiality, infection control, philosophy and goals, and privacy. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day.
