An assisted living community is a residential community which administers support, supervision, and assistance to healthy persons who are not in need of skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities commonly offer help with appointments and transit, support with daily activities, and opportunities for recreational activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide continuing care, respite, or Alzheimer’s care. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . The state of Georgia has a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes governs this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include described as personal services, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, assisted living care, and the provision of assisted self-preservation. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A written care plan must document the assessment findings, personal preferences relative to care needs, assessment to determine the resident’s medical needs, and assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include applying topical medications, assisting residents with self-administration, and assisting residents with storage of medications. Staff must receive training in a number of fields. These areas include including the special needs of residents with dementia, reporting requirements, Residents’ rights, and assistance with medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
