Assisted living communities provide oversight, personal care, and social opportunities to people around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities frequently offer chances for leisurely activity, assistance with transit and appointments, and assistance with daily activities. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide nursing care, respite, or Alzheimer’s care. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes licenses this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisted living care, the provision of assisted self-preservation, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, and described as personal services. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assisting with an Epi pen, assisting residents with storage of medications, and cognitive and functionally able residents may self-administer medications . Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A written care plan must document the assessment findings, assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, care plan must be updated at least annually and when there is a change in the resident’s needs, and personal preferences relative to care needs. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of fields. These include: exploitation of a resident, general infection control principles, assisting residents in transferring and ambulation, and training necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
