We placed my father in law at Exton Senior Living for a 30 days respite care stay, while we traveled for work and got everything situated post stroke. After touring and spending almost 2 hours with [name removed], we absolutely fell in love with the facility and the staff. Due to their smaller sized community, all the residents are known by the staff and you can feel a sense of family. During my father in law’s time in respite care, his health declined and he needed to go the hospital. Unfortunately, we were out of town, but [name removed] contacted us and kept us informed and helped us make the best decisions for my father in law. After his hospital stay, it was recommended that he find a place to stay permanently and it was without question that he would stay at Exton, until he needs skilled nursing care. We are so grateful for the community, the kindness and care my father in law receives and the family atmosphere.... Read more

I can’t say enough about this amazing building. What really hits you when you first walk in the door is the warm feeling you got from the people. The residents are all happy, and obviously well cared for. The staff are friendly and easy to talk to. It’s definitely a place to call home and I would refer everybody I love to come here for care, that family feeling, and peace of mind!

As soon as you walk through the doors, you feel like you are home. The environment, the staff and residents, are so friendly, supportive and inviting. They truly care to learn about the life story of each person, and cater to make all feel like they are an important part of the family! This community truly is, the “warm cozy!”

We really like the communication from the staff as far as everything regarding our loved one - since they were so communicative we got regular updates. However they memory care unity is fairly small and mostly includes personal care patients as opposed to memory care so we felt they could improve on the memory care unit and improve on the care capabilities

Response from Exton Senior Living
September 12, 2022Thank you for complimenting the Exton staff for providing regular updates about your loved one. We recognize communication with our families is very important and strive to keep in touch often. We would like to discuss your concerns about our Memory Care Unit. We provide a safe, warm environment where residents are treated with dignity and respect. We focus on care and activities that are conducive to your loved one's emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing. Your input is valuable to us. Please call Exton Senior Care's Executive Operations Officer, Casey Counseller, at 610-417-8311. We look forward to talking with you!
Exton had a very friendly atmosphere, although it was more geared toward women than men. When we were there, there was a management change, so some processes were jumbled, understandably. But overall it was a good choice.

They have a very good care giver to resident ratio. Our loved one at times can be very difficult and demanding and they have had a lot of patience with her and just overall the staff have been very good.

My mom lives at Exton Senior Living. What a charming memory support area. My mom is very happy there. She was living with me at my home, I could no longer care for her since I work. It was hard for me to move her anywhere because I made her a promise to not let her go to the "HOME". Exton Senior Living is NOT the HOME. It is beautiful, my mom is happy, healthy & well cared for. The staff go out of their way to make my family feel at home when we visit. It is so wonderful to see my mom laugh & have a good time with the ladies who live there. She found her new home, She loves the food & friends she has made there. I found peace of mind. Thank you, Exton Senior Living. Please check out Exton Senior Living. It is like home. Everyone knows the names of my family members. :)

Exton Senior Living is a very nice place, the staff has been extremely friendly. We are very happy with this community. Since COVID the activities have been pretty minimal. However beforehand they were wonderful. There would be a piano player come in to play and do sing a longs, there was bingo, and a happy hour. They would have cooking classes and even holiday parties. For Halloween they could invite their families, dress up, and have a Halloween parade. There was always something to do to keep them active and engaged. The residents used to be able to eat in the dining hall which was very pretty, they had assigned seating so the residents became pretty close with each other. They are currently trying to re-establish eating in the dining room while still maintain social distancing. This community is doing outside visiting on their wrap around porch. Our loved one is diabetic and they have a foot doctor come in twice a week to cut toenails, there is also a staff doctor and a beauty salon on site.

I would not recommend this community to anyone. My loved one was only there for 4 days. We found our loved one in clothes that weren't his. Our loved one was left alone. The staff said that it was shift change and he would have to wait, since he was alone. My loved one got an infection due to him not being checked on. They wanted to charge for the whole month, even thought my loved one was there for only 4 days. I feel they are short staffed.

Response from Exton Senior Living
September 28, 2020At Exton Senior Living it is our goal to exceed expectations for all our residents, families and guests. I am the Executive Director and was disappointed to read this was not your experience. I want to assure you that we not only meet state regulations for staffing, as a senior living company committed to quality care, we strive to exceed what is required. That said, we are always looking for ways to listen and improve and as such I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly regarding your observations. Please contact me at the community at your convenience.
We are so satisfied with this community. The care is just great. They have 24/7 caregivers and nurses, a doctor that visits weekly, a podiatrist the visits biweekly, and physical therapists onsite. All of the staff have been wonderful to my mom. Every time I call there they are able to address my needs. The communication since COVID has been excellent. They call and send out letters with community updates. The food is great and they offer a variety at each meal. They offer many activities including bingo, social events, holiday parties, live entertainment and singalongs, and ice cream socials. All of the staff know every resident by name, My mom is taken care of in a manner that I really appreciate. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

ESL is not currently a good facility for the memory care unit. The have had a lot of staff turnover the last year. So, no development in operational improvements. They had staff that was not providing good care. Short staffing levels at various times throughout the day. Supervision is limited so limited training and knowledge of who does and does not do a good job. So, family can not be comfortable with their care of their loved ones. But, the current staff is making some progress to have the same staff in the unit so they can know the residents and their need and behavior. And the residents can start to know them and feel comfortable with them. They have dismissed several who were not providing good care for the residents. But, still a ways to go for good care.

December 23, 2019I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for your feedback. We are always striving to improve the services we provide to all our residents and their families, and I am glad to hear you are seeing the fruits of some of our recent changes. While we certainly experienced turnover, as you've noted we've added additional dedicated staff as well as made significant additions in our activities staffing and programs. I am confident that working together we will continue to provide quality care for your loved one and stay focused on consistent and ongoing improvement. Please do not hesitate to stop by my office at any time -- my door is always open.
My brother, who suffered from the early onset of Alzheimer’s, resided at Exton Senior Living for over seven and one half years. In all of that time he never expressed any dissatisfaction with the facilities or how he was treated. I live out of state so I could not visit him often but I had friends in the PA area visit him regularly and I called him at least once a week. My friends always found him to be dressed well and in a good mood. During the telephones calls I always asked him how they were treating him and how the meals are. He always responds positively. I did visit him several times over the years and on these visits, I found the facility to be clean, the food to be good and the staff to be courteous and friendly. My brother seemed to be as content as one could be under the circumstances. I consider myself very fortunate to have located Exton Senior Living. When my brother’s Doctor called and told me my brother had two major problems. The first was he had a serious heart problem and the second was the early onset of Alzheimer’s. I flew to PA and started looking for a place for him to live. I called or visited every assisted living facility in the Exton/West Chester area. As soon as I said the word “Alzheimer’s” I was advised they could not care for him or they quoted a price my brother could not afford. After three days of searching, I contacted Exton Senior Living. They agreed to visit my brother at the nursing home he was in and do an evaluation of his condition. The next day they contacted me and let me know they would accept him. I had him moved there and the rest is history. I had hoped he could live out the remainder of his life there but his condition deteriorated to the point that he needed the continuous care of a nursing home, so regretfully, I moved him to a Veteran’s Home. During my brother’s stay at Exton Senior Living, I interfaced with three facility Directors as well as many other staff members. They were all very professional and helpful. I do not know what I would have done without them. The most recent Director, [name removed] and the memory Care Coordinator, [name removed], went out of their way to get my brother packed and ready to move. This is normally the responsibility of the resident’s relatives. As I live fifteen hundred miles away, they relieved me of a great burden and I really appreciate that. When the transportation van arrived, my brother was ready to go and he was delivered to the Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, Pa. As far as I am concerned, Exton Senior Living was a life saver for my brother and I do not know what I would have done without them. There is no way I can thank them enough for their support or give a higher recommendation for their professional services. If you ever have a loved one in need of help, I would look no further than Exton Senior Living.

[name removed] was very friendly & confident. This place is close to home & the community is small which we like. The studio apt was spacious. My husband was uncomfortable as dad is physically fit & almost all the residents we saw used walkers, canes or wheelchairs. They offer the PT room for exercise & would also work out transportation, along with Rover, to try to get dad to his daily Y workout.

Seamless admission process for [name removed] with helpful staff. He has a lovely efficiency apartment with small refrigerator/freezer and private bath. His pureed diet may lack texture, but it is 5-star for taste. The staff are all amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, caring - the list goes on! Attended a Holiday Party last night for all residents and their families - cocktail hour, buffet that included shrimp, roast beef and crab cakes, dessert table and entertainment. WONDERFUL! Activities include sing-a-longs, games, church services, and more.

I have placed my uncle here. I am very happy with the accomodations. He has his own "apartment" with a refrigerator and a large bathroom. The nursing department has been wonderful in keeping up with his care. He is mobile and goes to the recreation room for activities. The staff has been great to me and my family.

This was was a nice community and the staff doing the tour did a very good job, they took their time showing me around and the answered my questions. There were a lot of amenities offered for the residents and the rooms seemed a little small and I was concerned about the barren hallways and the fact that my mother might become confused in trying to find her room. I did not feel that this community was going to be the best fit for my mother.
