Assisted living communities provide apartment style housing and social interaction as well as personalized support. Services provided often include assistance with the activities of daily life. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must include an appropriate variety of foods, planned in consideration of cultural and religious backgrounds , the total daily diet must meet the recommended dietary allowances of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board, communities must provide at least three meals per day and snacks, and meals must comply with diet prescribed by physicians. Staff must receive education in a variety of fields. These areas include skills and knowledge required to provide necessary resident care, need for professionall help, 10 hours of initial training within the first 4 weeks of employment and 4 additional hours annually, and knowledge required to safely assist with prescribed medications. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program.
