Assisted living communities offer social events, care, and oversight to persons around 65 years old. Assisted living communities usually offer help with the activities of daily life, opportunities for organized activity, and aid with appointments and transportation. In certain situations, communities may offer hospice, dementia care, or nursing care. In California, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $54,000 . California maintains specific rules associated with this kind of community. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division certifies this community type. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration and assistance with self-administration of medications. Staff members receive training in a variety of fields. These include: recognizing signs and symptoms of dementia, 10 hours of initial training within the first 4 weeks of employment and 4 additional hours annually, resident supervision, and first-aid.
