Assisted living communities offer residential communities and assistance for persons who require help with everyday activities such as cooking meals or showering. Assisted living communities commonly provide aid with transportation and appointments, outings for social activity, and supervision of care. In select instances, communities may offer nursing care, hospice, or dementia care. In California, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $54,000 . The state of California maintains specific regulations related to this type of community. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division licenses this type of community. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These include: medication policies and procedures, resident supervision, 10 hours of initial training within the first 4 weeks of employment and 4 additional hours annually, and need for professionall help. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration and assistance with self-administration of medications.
