I am very happy with the community. They keep the community very clean. The staff are nice and assist with her needs. She is happy with the meals and variety. They are offering her activities that she is enjoying. I would recommend this community for the good care, but the it is a little costly. I am very happy that this is a closer to location so that I can visit more often.

After one year, we have been extremely happy with the atmosphere and care given our mom. The staff are always smiling and positive, professional and friendly. They are always willing to help with any need our mom may have as well as assisting family members and answering any questions. The facilities are kept clean and provide a great environment for activities, safety and comfort. Our mom loves her apt. and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. She's made friends and has the social life she needs to feel included and fulfilled. We would recommend the Legend at Fort Worth to anyone!

Step 2: Identify the best memory care options in Fort Worth, Texas for your needs

To help you narrow down your options and choose the best memory care facility near you, some factors to consider include:

  • Memory care ratings and reviews. Our community reviews are submitted by people who have direct experience with the community. As you find memory care communities that interest you, read through the reviews: Do people have positive things to say about the community and their loved one’s experience there?
  • State licensing and regulations. Memory care communities are regulated by the state. Many states make information about community licensing, inspections, and violations available to the public. Is the community accredited? How long has it held this designation? Has the facility passed an inspection recently?
  • Specialized design. Does the community have wayfinding features, like signage and clearly marked doorways? If your loved one likes the outdoors, does the community have a healing garden or secure outdoor space?
  • Staff trained in dementia care. What specialized training do employees have? What’s the staff-to-resident ratio? Is the community staffed 24/7?
  • Memory care facility features and amenities. Does the community fit your loved one’s interests? For example, if they’re religious, is there an on-site chapel? If they value pampering and self-care, is there a beauty salon or barbershop?
  • Memory care activities. While cognitive therapies – like pet therapy and music therapy – can’t cure dementia, they can help stave off its progression and keep seniors alert and entertained. Consider asking communities if you can view a memory care activities calendar to see if there are singalongs, game nights, and supervised outings to keep your loved one socially involved.

Step 3: Compare the costs of memory care near Fort Worth, Texas

How much does memory care cost in Fort Worth, Texas? The answer varies based on location, floorplan options, amenities, and the level of care your loved one needs. Memory care facility costs in your area typically range between 3,711 to 5,567, with an average monthly cost for memory care of 4,936.

Families who need less expensive care and are flexible as far as location is concerned may consider nearby Keller, TX, where the average cost of a memory care facility is 5,034.

Discover the many ways to pay for senior living

Planning ahead can better position you to make good choices for your loved one’s care in the future. But if your aging family member needs care now, there are ways to finance the cost of long-term care through a combination of approaches.

More on paying for memory care

When determining how to pay for long-term care, most families end up using a variety of funding sources and strategies, such as:

Related: Visit our complete guide to paying for long-term care
All our payment advice in one place. This comprehensive resource contains detailed tips on how to plan and pay for senior living.

Step 4: Make a plan to pay for memory care in Fort Worth, TX

Although Fort Worth memory care costs are lower than the national average, paying for memory care in any locale can require some careful planning. There are several funding options to consider, but most people combine a variety of private and public sources.

To pay for Fort Worth memory care for your loved one, first consider private sources, such as:

  • Income: This could be any income that your loved one receives, including Social Security benefits, savings, pensions or investments.
  • Selling a house:
Many aging adults moving to memory care use home equity from selling their home as a way to pick up the tab.
  • Reverse mortgage:
In situations where selling a home isn’t feasible, a reverse mortgage frees up funds by taking a loan from the home’s current equity.
  • Health savings accounts:
If your loved one has a health savings account, these funds can be used to pay for memory care in Fort Worth.
  • Life insurance:
Some life insurance policies can be sold to a third party or surrendered for cash so the funds can then be used to pay for memory care. Talk to your loved one’s insurance provider to see what your options are.
  • Long-term care insurance: For those who have planned in advance, long-term care insurance policies are designed to help pay for custodial costs associated with memory care. Check with your loved one to see if they have a long-term care insurance policy, as this may cover a significant portion of their memory care costs.
Related: Visit our complete guide to paying for long-term care

Step 5: Tour your top memory care communities in Fort Worth, Texas

Taking a tour is a crucial step in choosing a memory care facility. In fact, 97% percent of families took a tour before moving a parent to memory care, according to A Place for Mom’s family survey. Whether you tour in-person or virtually, this experience allows you to meet community staff, see the unit your family member would live in, and ask important questions.

Related: Feel confident and prepared with our memory care touring checklist

This downloadable guide helps you identify what to look for in a community and key questions to ask when you visit.

Step 6: Plan for how to move to memory care

The process of moving a parent to memory care typically starts with an empathetic conversation. Talking to a parent about memory care should happen at the right time and place, prioritizing your loved one’s comfort and privacy.

Prepare for a move to memory care

As it gets closer to move-in day, ease the transition to memory care by packing for your family member and beginning to personalize their space. The day of, acknowledge your loved one’s questions, encourage them to get involved in memory care activities, and have conversations with staff about what communication will be like moving forward.

Although it’s often grouped into the larger metro area along with Dallas and Arlington, Fort Worth has a rich history and distinctive culture of its own. The city’s cowboy past can be experienced in the Fort Worth Stockyards District, where visitors can walk the brick streets and explore the area’s many old-fashioned saloons, restaurants, and country music venues. Fort Worth also has several world-class museums, including the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. In Sundance Square, a popular shopping and entertainment district in the downtown area, the Sid Richardson Museum focuses on paintings depicting the American West. While downtown, explore the Fort Worth Water Gardens — an urban park featuring layers of descending waterfalls, pools, and benches, where visitors are free to roam and cool down from the Texas heat. Meanwhile, on the city’s northwestern edge, you’ll find Airfield Falls Conservation Park. The park gets its name from the neighboring naval air base and the sections of aircraft installed in the ground at the park’s entrance, and features a network of hiking and biking trails along a branch of the Trinity River that is home to many natural waterfalls.
