If you’re considering moving your loved one into a San Antonio nursing home, our senior living advisors can help. The term “nursing home” is often used interchangeably with assisted living or other senior housing options; but a nursing home is a skilled nursing facility for individuals with serious, debilitating short- or long-term health issues. So even the best nursing homes in San Antonio, TX may not be right for seniors who don’t require round-the-clock care.
We can help you determine if a skilled nursing facility in San Antonio or another care type is right for you. Browse 90 senior living options near you to see the variety available, or contact us to learn more about elderly homes in San Antonio.
We are also serving Nursing Homes facilities in surrounding neighborhoods like River Walk, Harmony Hills and Canyon Creek.
You may also consider nearby communities such as Adkins, Bexar or Castroville.
We were at the Season's on Old Tezel Rd, and the staff are incredibly loving and patient with the residents, as well as the families!
Read moreThis is a super secure dementia location, so I felt like my loved one was safe the whole time he was there. He didn't have the opportunity to wander much, but I would not have worried about it. The care staff was fine, although I had some issues with the administrative staff. But the care staff's communication with hospice was very good. It was a beautiful place, with nice furnishings. Everything seemed very clean, and I felt it was a very comfortable environment for the residents. And their cost is in line with other care facilities.
Read moreI do think they care. Everyone I've met has been very nice and helpful. Overall the facility is very clean, but my loved one's room is not done as well. The food here is pretty good. There are activities and things to do if the residents are so inclined. My loved one has done some outings he enjoyed quite a bit, but he's not the bingo type. One thing I really love about Landon Ridge is they allow pets, and they have a fenced-in pet area where he can take his dog. We got in at a good rate, so I feel like we're getting a good value.

San Antonio operates a comprehensive public bus system called VIA, which consists of the standard city bus as well as VIAtrans, a system geared toward persons with disabilities. VIAtrans trips can be scheduled approximately a day in advance along VIA’s standard bus routes. Eligibility must be determined for approval to utilize VIAtrans services. Seniors 62+ can obtain a Reduced Fare ID, which reduces the cost of bus fare on weekdays, and permits free rides on weekends. Buses generally run from around 5am to 10pm, with some downtown buses running later.
San Antonio offers several health care providers for seniors wanting to be proactive about their health or for seniors seeking treatment for chronic conditions. The area has several hospitals, including Methodist Hospital and Kindred Hospital San Antonio.
San Antonio’s pleasant weather and reputation as a major tourist destination means there’s never a shortage of fun activities. For Texas history buffs, no visit to San Antonio would be complete without a visit to the Alamo mission, which currently operates a museum and historical tour. Another of the city’s most popular destinations is the San Antonio River Walk. A sunken pedestrian thoroughfare, the River Walk winds through the city along the San Antonio River, and is lined with shops, restaurants, historic missions, and various attractions. The River Walk is a central component of many area celebrations, such as Fiesta San Antonio — a yearly city festival dating back over a century, commemorating the region’s historical battles. Fiesta San Antonio lasts approximately 2 weeks, draws millions of people, and consists of hundreds of events, such as a boat parade of floats travelling the San Antonio River. San Antonio is also home to what was the first modern art museum in Texas, the McNay Art Museum, which consists of founder Marion Koogler McNay's 1927 mansion, the museum itself, and a Japanese-style garden. The museum includes over 20,000 art objects, and boasts works by famed artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, and Diego Rivera.
Nursing homes, also called skilled nursing facilities, provide long-term care for seniors with significant physical or mental health conditions, and short-term care to people recovering from an injury or hospital stay.
