Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and health care for people who may need help with everyday activities such as showering or meal preparation. The types of service provided often include support with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In some situations, communities may provide dementia care, hospice, or respite. Oregon maintains specific rules related to this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight regulates this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as physical health exam, mental health evaluation, ADLs test, and risk indicator assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include health services, assist psychosocial wellbeing, maximize physical functioning, and transportation services. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff members obtain training in a variety of fields. These include: fire safety, residents’ rights, the values of community-based care, and abuse and reporting requirements. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room.
