When I visited my elderly friend at Brookdale, her meal was left in the living room. She was bedridden. There was not a utensil in sight. The food was not pureed and she choked on the turkey I fed her (with my fingers). Hospice told me she was to be fed her meals but Brookdale didn't have the staff to do that. I pressed the call button 3 times and in the 25 minutes I was there, no one came. I appreciate the caregivers and know they are very busy. They are probably underpaid, undertrained and understaffed. There appears to be a high turnover which is understandable in today's business climate. I think Brookdale may be fine for senior and assisted living but it is NOT set up for nursing and definitely not set up as a dementia facility. On one visit my elderly friend was exiting the building. Who knows where she might have gone had another friend not stopped her. Daily family visits to assist with care are mandatory at Brookdale for anyone who cares about their loved one.

Response from Brookdale Newberg
December 20, 2022We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care and we will share your feedback with our management team.
This has been a positive experience for us overall. This is a much better community physically than other communities in the area. The staff communication with the family has been positive for us as well. There are three meals a day served, and at least 2 meals my loved one has choices to choose from.

Been here 2 years through Covid. Brookdale has taken good care care of us.
Since coming to Brookdale. I have been more than satisfied. The staff and residents more feel like I'm the ''grandest in the jungle'' Thanksgiving I had lunch with my daughter one of the best cooks in the country. I came back after dinner and one of the RA's told me she was having prime rib. I asked how it was she said she had to work and hadn't had her's yet. She called her grand and had it delivered. Bless her heart she brought me a piece.
Our family had an in person tour and the staff there were nice, the community was clean and the rooms were okay. However the first general feel we got was that it felt more like a nursing home and not a retirement center.

November 23, 2021We deeply regret that we were unable to meet all of your expectations. We want to thank you for your feedback and please know it will be reviewed and used to better serve our residents and their families in the future.
We are very happy with the community, we do think they are doing the best that they can and doing a good job keeping up the cleanliness of the place. We have not been able to eat there ourselves, but our loved one says he is happy with the meals.

Wonderful experience! [Name removed] was excellent, she took mom from 'kicking and screaming' to 'if I have to I have to' in about 30 mins. She found the common ground and broke down the wall.

My Mother had lived here previously and she was pretty happy here. She moved out because of the cost and because she was still rather independent. When she moved back in, the adjustment was a little difficult for her. My mom has been here for a little over a month and I’m a little disappointed. I was told by the sales manager that they would be able to accommodate our requests for certain things. It’s been three weeks since I gave them a list of 4 things to fix and nothing has been done. I’ve received no response from them that they got my email or anything stating why they cannot accommodate my mom. A few of the things I’ve asked for is the rods in the closet to be lowered and a second room key. However, I really like the staff members and it’s a clean facility. They recently did a remodel with fresh paint and carpet when the building changed owners. I would recommend this facility to other families.

This property was nice very well kept and maintained. It met our requirements as far as the 2 major things we were looking for a pet-friendly community and they needed to offer cottages which they do. However, the size of the cottages was not as large as I was hoping for. They also didn't offer a patio it was a deck which wouldn't work for our little dog. On the tour, the staff seemed friendly and they were helpful answering our questions and the residents that we saw seemed to be comfortable.

A Place For Mom is amazing and we appreciate everything, following through with agreements and being so helpful every moment along the way. This community is so beautiful and clean with amazing staff, which is small but they are always concerned, attentive, and on top of everything. My mom enjoys her meals but the menu does need special diet options too. Mom likes to play cards, go to the movies and is happy with all the activities. I would highly, absolutely recommend this commuinty.

My mother did so well at Brookdale. She got better and was able to move back home and we are so pleased with all the help we got from Brookdale they were really great. The community is nice looking, too. My mother had a few little issues with housekeeping, but nothing too serious to worry about. It's a clean community. The staff is friendly and kind and very helpful to my mother. Their response time to her was great, they responded to anything that she needed. She really enjoyed the food, and she gained five pounds while she was there. This was a great experience and we are very happy we are able to take her home now thanks to Brookdale. We would highly recommend them.

We really liked the care giving staff, but the supervisory staff was not very understanding. They did not deliver on what was promised and as such my parents ended up having to move out. On that day that I picked my mom up from there to move her to her new home they had not changed her and it was a mess to have to deal with. They should have taken better care of her, but they seem to have quit caring for her by that point.

Our stay here was very short, unfortunately. However, they were very helpful for the days that she was here. When ever she needed anything, they were right on top of it! We couldn't have asked for more help. It was clean, and the staff was very friendly. I didn't have a single concern about the facility.
