An assisted living community is an organized living community which administers support, supervision, and assistance to medically stable seniors who do not need skilled nursing services. The services offered often include help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may provide dementia care, continuing care, or skilled nursing. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $9,292 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $8,373 . Michigan has a number of provisions associated with this type of community. The Department of Human Services licenses governs this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, medication supervision and administration, and reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, and The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, three daily meals and snacks must be provided, and communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervised personal care, supporting a resident’s personal and social needs, medication management, and reminding resident of important activities to be carried out.
