Oliver Woods is a beautiful community! It is truly a home away from home, inviting and contributes quality moments of joy. The staff goes above and beyond to provide excellent care! Great food!
My children like it - like facetiming with family. We have lots of activities to get out of our rooms.
Oliver Woods is an excellently run full service community which offers assistance for persons with issues like Alzheimer's, mobility difficulties, and minor to serious medical issues. Church lectures, games, exercise, etc are available day by day. A friendly yet professional staff are always ready to meet residents needs
the staff are very nice to my loved ones and seem to have a good relationship with one another. the staff are helpful as well, I've seen them helping my mom carry her laundry basket just two doors down. my parents have a dog and a staff member [name removed] offers to take the dog out for them - she doesn't have to do that, they always go above and beyond what is expected of them. Oliver Woods does have a nursing home type of feel, rather than a homey one. they could also improve on the meals and dining. sometimes the food is served cold, in which case my loved ones and other residents will complain to them. the food should have more of a variety in sides to what's being served as the main dish. the ambiance during dinner is really dull, it feels like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant or community gathering. this can easily be fixed by playing some music or maybe facilitating some sort of activity? overall this community has a lot of kind and caring people, my loved ones like it here.

Hello Teresa, Thank you for your review and kind words. We are glad you appreciate our caring team. We are pleased to share we have added new music speakers to the dining rooms. We started a happy hour with the chef and life enrichment team where our residents discuss the menus and the dining environment, so we can create the best dining experience for our residents. If you have any other amazing suggestions or questions, please call our community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you!

My Mother entered Oliver Woods in January 2020. My Mother was welcomed and embraced with compassion, love & professionalism. I consider that ALL my Mother's needs (mind, body & spirit) are met with a high level of competence, discernment and compassionate concern. She now feels like a valued part of a loving community that embraces everyone with dignity and respect. My Mother's family members also feel like an important part of both my Mother's care and her Oliver Woods Community. I am extremely impressed with how the surrounding community contributes to the many creative & meaningful activities that are offered to the residents. My Mother enjoys all of the activities she takes part in. Her weeks are busy! My Mother entered Oliver Woods knowing hardly anyone there. She now has meaningful friendships with fellow residents. She enjoys the relationships she has developed. I am very grateful to her Oliver Woods community that has become to feel like my Mother's new home.
I live in Florida so I am not able to visit often. From conversations I have had with the staff I believe my aunt is receiving good care from caring staff. I do not have any information as to meals or activities because of my absence.
I was not expecting to need the services of assisted living for several more years for my parent(s). As my family’s circumstances changed, and our needs became more immediate, I was impressed and comforted by the staff at Oliver Woods. I never felt pressured or rushed. I never felt that I was being sold anything. The staff guided me, coached me, and gave me support while I worked through a very difficult situation. While everyone is over-stressed, over-worked, and under-staffed, I have found the employees to be helpful, patient, and friendly. My mother is comfortable and enjoys the staff and the facility! It’s the PEOPLE that make the place special.
My uncle was at Oliver Woods. Everything seemed fine, except when he was at the end of his life. We were limited to two visitors at one time, one visit per day per person, and one hour each. The manager told us that these limitations were due to state covid limits. The manager’s statements were false. The covid limits had already been lifted several months prior to our experience. I can understand why they would not want a huge crowd, but their restrictions were heartbreaking. My uncle wanted people around him. A couple of people had travelled very far to be with him. The people at Oliver Woods did not seem to care. I also question the soundness of their equipment. A strap broke that was holding my uncle to a transporting device broke, causing him to fall.

First of all, our thoughts are with you and your family during this time. We agree that Covid has put unprecedented challenges upon everyone. As an organization, we are taking recommendations from the CDC and the State of Michigan to ensure the safety of our residents, employees, and visiting guests. We are trying to improve on how to support families during the hospice process through the pandemic, and we think connecting with you directly to learn more about your experience could be helpful. Unfortunately, SeniorAdvisor doesn’t let us list names or phone numbers for privacy reasons, however, we would like to connect. Please reach out to the Executive Director at the community to be put in contact with their leader to discuss our opportunities.
Oliver Woods was nice, but it seemed too nice. It wasn’t believable or feasible. It was all show - too clean, too showy, brand new furniture in the room they showed us. It was like a showplace, not a place for someone to live. There seemed to be no life there. I didn't see any people. They were all in their rooms. It also seemed to be a place with highly functional residents, not what comes to mind for assisted living, and not a place if your loved one needs more care.
