Assisted living communities provide social events, supervision, and care to persons who are about 65 years old. Services offered often involve aid with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer skilled nursing care, dementia care, or hospice. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $9,292 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $8,373 . Michigan has a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Department of Human Services licenses certifies this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, medication supervision and administration, and proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include reminding resident of important activities to be carried out, guidance, supervised personal care, and medication management. Staff are required to obtain education in a number of areas. These areas include personal care, standard precautions, administration of medication, and safety and fire prevention. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, and The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, and three daily meals and snacks must be provided.
