Assisted living communities have the luxury of a sense of community as well as personalized help. The types of service offered often include support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, dementia care, or hospice. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. The state of Florida has specific standards related to this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation supervises this type of community. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, nursing services, assistance with activities of daily living , and assistance with self-administration of medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , meals must be adapted to residents' food habits, and the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident's health care provider for residents who require special diets. Staff members receive education in a variety of fields. These include: reporting incidents, resident behavior and needs, 26 hours of training plus a competency test, and resident rights. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , communities must document such assessment, medical examination report, and community must document any substantial changes in a resident's status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community . This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration, and reading the label.
