Assisted living communities offer residential communities and health care for your loved one who may require help with everyday activities such as taking medication or dressing. Assisted living communities frequently provide supervision of care, opportunities for social activity, and assistance with daily activities. In certain cases, communities may provide respite, continuing care, or Alzheimer’s care. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . Washington has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) supervises this type of community. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES). Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant, level of personal care needs, activities and service preferences, and mental illness. Staff must obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include safety training (3 hours), HIV/AIDS, First-aid and CPR, and orientation (2 hours). This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include basic personal care services, general responsibility for each resident, administration of health care treatments, and communities choose to provide certain health support services. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services, medication administration provided through nurse delegation, and resident self-administration of medication. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, and practitioner.
