Assisted Living

Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid for persons who might need help with things such as meal preparation or washing. Services provided often involve help with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer skilled nursing care, dementia care, or hospice. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . Washington maintains specific statutes associated with this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) licenses this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include communities choose to provide certain health support services, assistance with ADLs, basic personal care services, and general responsibility for each resident. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, medication administration provided through nurse delegation, and resident self-administration of medication. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant, an initial comprehensive exam including medical history , significant known behaviors or symptoms that may cause concern or require special care, and level of personal care needs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, and practitioner. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES). Staff members obtain training in a number of fields. These areas include First-aid and CPR, safety training (3 hours), nurse delegation and core diabetes, and orientation (2 hours).
