Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and health care for persons who might need help with things such as washing or dressing. The types of service offered often include support with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under supervision and assessment. In certain cases, communities may provide skilled nursing care, dementia care, or “aging in place”. The state of Oregon maintains a number of provisions associated with this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight governs this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include maximize physical functioning, health services, assist psychosocial wellbeing, and 24-hour emergency care service. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as risk indicator assessment, mental health evaluation, ADLs test, and physical health exam. Staff must obtain education in a number of fields. These include: abuse and reporting requirements, emergency procedures, residents’ rights, and infection control. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program.
