Assisted living communities provide residential communities and assistance to people who might require help with washing or meal preparation. The services offered often include assistance with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, continuing care, or nursing. The state of Oregon maintains specific standards associated with this kind of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight licenses this community type. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Staff members receive education in a variety of fields. These include: residents’ rights, infection control, the values of community-based care, and abuse and reporting requirements. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assist psychosocial wellbeing, transportation services, health services, and 24-hour emergency care service. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met.
