Assisted Living

Assisted living communities have the luxury of a sense of community as well as individual help. Assisted living communities usually offer outings for leisurely activity, help with the activities of daily life, and assistance with appointments and transportation. In select instances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, “aging in place”, or hospice. The state of Ohio has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. Ohio Department of Health certifies this community type. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. Staff members receive education in a number of subjects. These include: community procedures, securing emergency assistance, job responsibilities, and residents rights. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medication review, functional status assessment, medical diagnoses, and cognitive status review. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include intermittent nursing services, supervision, personal care, and assistance with self-administration of medication. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include verifying labels, observation, and handing medications to resident. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room.
