Assisted living communities administer recreational activities, supervision, and care to persons around 65 years old. The services provided often include help with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide “aging in place”, respite, or skilled nursing. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as problematic behaviors, activities of daily living needs, a comprehensive mental and physical assessment, and ability to self-administer medication. a licensed nutritionist or licensed dietician must review menus on a 4- week cycle for nutritional quality programs must also provide special diets as ordered by a physician or needed by residents This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision or occasional assistance with two or more activities of daily living, assistance with self-administration of medications, uncomplicated interventions to manage occasional behaviors that might disrupt or harm the resident or others, and occasional assistance in accessing social and recreational services.
