Assisted living communities offer supervision, care, and social events to individuals around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities usually provide aid with the activities of daily life, opportunities for recreational activity, and help with transportation and appointments. These include assistance with activities of daily living , nursing services, personal care services, and assistance with self-administration of medications. Staff members receive education in a variety of fields. These include: resident rights, community sanitation procedures, providing assistance with activities of daily living, and resident behavior and needs. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, and unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, and meals must be adapted to residents preferences.
