Assisted living communities provide personal care, supervision, and social opportunities to individuals who are around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities frequently provide supervision of care, assistance with daily activities, and opportunities for social activity. In certain situations, communities may offer hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or nursing care. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $13,916 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $12,699 . Connecticut maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing regulates this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminding residents to take medications, assistance with self-administration of medications, and verifying. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day. Staff members obtain training in a variety of subjects. These areas include assisted living philosophy, 6 hours of annual in-service continuing education on topics, applicable regulations, and community policies and procedures. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include provision of care and services to residents whose conditions are chronic and stable, nursing services, wellness counseling, and health promotion. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan must include information about the resident’s problems and needs, plan must include types and frequency of services needed, RN conducts consultation with the resident, and medications, treatments, and other required nursing services.
