Assisted living communities provide organized social events and apartment style housing as well as individual care. The types of service provided often involve support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. In some situations, communities may offer continuing care, dementia care, or nursing. The annual median cost for a private room is around $166,988 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $152,388 . The state of Connecticut maintains specific rules related to this type of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing governs this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening medication packages, assistance with self-administration of medications, and verifying. Staff must obtain training in a number of subjects. These include: assisted living philosophy, aides must pass a competency exam, 10-hour orientation, and community policies and procedures. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administered medications, delegation of supervision of self-administered medications, resident teaching, and health promotion. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan must include types and frequency of services needed, medications, treatments, and other required nursing services, RN conducts consultation with the resident, and he program must be reviewed as the resident’s condition requires. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
