Did not like it at all, it was dark and depressing. There were 2 men sitting all by themselves in the only communal gathering space. There was no activity other than a TV up on the wall. The other rooms were not able to be viewed as they had residents in them but from the doorway they were small and sparse. Overall not a place I would want a family member living. Also the sales person was late for our appt and we had to wait in our car until she arrived , the entry from the parking lot was a treacherous set of stairs that my 86 year old father almost had to crawl up because it was so unsafe. No railing.
My friend has lived at Shepherd Premier Senior Living for 3 months. A small boutique center where she is well cared for. Private, clean rooms, attentive staff, meals prepared by staff. They respond to her needs, and to my phone calls and visits. She has physical and occupational therapy from home health agency ordered by doctor of facility. This has improved her ability immensely.
I've known the Shepherd team for years and seen the work they've done in their other beautiful, assisted living homes in Harvard and Ringwood. And their Gurnee home is every bit as lovely. I recently took a tour and was so impressed with the layout, the homey feel and all the little touches they have with their decor and the way they make residents feel like they're still at home. I've visited many senior living places (both my wife and I work do work inside the industry) and Shepherd is one of the most resident-center places I've seen.
