Assisted living communities offer personal care, oversight, and social events to persons who are on average 65 years old. Assisted living communities often provide support with the activities of daily life, chances for leisurely activity, and supervision of care. In some cases, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, respite, or hospice. Ohio maintains specific statutes associated with this type of community. Ohio Department of Health certifies this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include activities, assistance with self-administration of medication, medication administration, and intermittent nursing services. Staff members obtain training in a number of areas. These include: job responsibilities, securing emergency assistance, residents rights, and community procedures. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as psychical history, psychological history, cognitive status review, and health history. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include handing medications to resident, reminders, and assistance organizing medication. The maximum occupancy is 4 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 8 residents. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare.
