Assisted Living

Assisted living communities offer supervision, social interaction, and healthcare to people who are around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities often offer support with the activities of daily life, outings for organized activity, and supervision of care. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, respite, or Alzheimer’s care. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $10,494 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $9,581 . New Hampshire has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Health communities Administration certifies this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include provide three or more meals a day, staff responsible for food prep/service must have knowledge of resident nutritional requirements, all snacks and meals must meet the recommended dietary guidelines of the National Academy of Science, and provide snacks between meals and before bed. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a nursing assessment and assessment by a trained assessor. Staff must receive education in a number of subjects. These areas include limitations on/correct use of restraints, nutrition, mandatory reporting requirements, and resident plan of care. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, social/recreational activities, crisis intervention, and medication services. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room. There must be one bath or shower for every 6 residents and one toilet for every 6 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include staff may observe and record medication side effects, residents may self-direct administration of medications, and the community may remind residents to take medication.
