An assisted living community is a residential community which administers supervision, support, and care to medically stable individuals who are not in need of skilled nursing support. The services offered often involve help with ADLs. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, continuing care, or respite. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. The state of Indiana maintains specific regulations associated with this type of community. These include scheduled transportation for community-based activities, activities and programs appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests, executing a minor regimen based upon a nursing diagnosis or as prescribed by a physician, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, or nurse practitioner, and comprehensive nursing care. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a negotiated risk plan will be established, A comprehensive assessment, evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs, and community will identify scope of care based on evaluation.
