We really like that Virginia Place is a smaller community so it has more of that homey feel to it. Everybody there from the staff to the residents is very friendly and based on the experience we have had so far we would recommend them to other families.

September 20, 2022Thanks for the review and feedback, Christa! We appreciate you taking the time to share with us, and we’re so glad to hear that you’re happy with your loved one's care. Thank you again! – Team Enlivant
Staff has changed lately and they seem to be better than before, which is great. I do wish they had more Spanish speaking staff. There are a few, but I feel more would be helpful. The facility is clean. We do a lot of our own cleaning, so they don't seem to be in my aunt's room as much. They did do a deep clean recently upon our request, which was nice. The room set up is great for the price. Level of care and cost seems high right now and seems to be medication/pharmacy driven. I'm still working to understand the process and how cost changes, so not sure if that's a typical obstacle. Activities are good, I don't see a huge amount but they are regular and they do a great job in encouraging the residents to participate. They also make sure to celebrate holidays. The facility is small, closed door, easy to navigate, and one level which is great for us and the main reason we chose Virginia Place. Overall, if you're able to manage levels of care for the cost, I feel good about recommending this facility.

They are struggling a bit with temp-workers within their nursing staff. My guess is that that's typical of every other place, but it's still an issue. A big negative is the continuity; I will talk to the head nurse and she'll say, "Okay I'll talk to my nursing staff", but they have an issue with passing that message down. I'm taking it as a "sign of the times", because if she were anywhere else it'd likely be the same. The room sizes were smaller than any other facility we've been, but the cost is similar. I liked things here in terms of the community having a one story layout, and with one stories that typically equals smaller rooms. What I appreciate is I walked in cold and I didn't make an appointment. I intentionally did that, I wanted to see how the staff would react to me coming in without an appointment. I wanted to see the people and other residents in the moment with nothing polished. I didn't want them prepared for me. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the environment, the cleanliness, the layout, and the hominess of the community. I watched the team interact with one another saying things like, "I'll take this one on", etc.. They were all willing to put in the time. They were very good with following up, they called me the next morning. I was concerned that she wasn't healthy enough to be there as she's [age removed] years old. I saw very active people there who were engaged in the garden that's located in the center of the facility. When I told them that they said, "Let us decide that". The next day they offered to asses her and they drove out to where she was in rehab to do so. They were very proactive and they pushed me a bit. They let me know that there was no issue and that she was perfect for their facility. We spoke about what would happen if she runs out of money, as they don't accept Medicare. They replied, "Honestly, if it was our mother, there is another facility". A lot of facilities were quite a distance away from my sister and It'd be a burden. She'd never be able to visit her, but this one is right near my sister so she can visit and take care of any problems if need be. They gave us alternatives (even for later), and what they would do if it was their mother. They gave information as if they really cared. We placed her here; things have calmed down and everyone seems relatively happy. We are fortunate that this one was a fit.

I would say to look for other places. Some of the staff are beyond very good but there are some that need possibly more training . The administrative staff are very good but they seem to be out of the loop of a lot of the things that are going on in the community. However, once they do find out about something they make sure that the issues are addressed.

Due to the shortage it can be hard sometimes getting used to the care givers due to the shortage and the new staff that come in and out. The meals are great and they have a top chef. They have lost the activity director at this time and they have not had activities for now but they are trying to find someone to get these stared and feel in between due to the loss of the director. This community is one story and has a really good homey feeling.

The first day of check in which was Christmas Day was the only good day our loved one and family experience. Everything else was neglect, our loved one was in so much pain. Their ankles were so swollen they could not even walk. They said they could handle our loved ones health and care but that was not the case. The director was fired because she was telling the families this was not a safe place, so they let her go. The director of nursing and administrator there had no checks and balances with their medicines. They never had any idea where narcotics would go. The executive director there at the time was wonderful, but she could never do anything because the director had over powered her.
Our family was able to do an in person tour and we had a great experience. The staff member we met with were super super friendly, and very helpful we have nothing bad to say. However, we did not choose the facility just due to our loved ones health condition, they needed a specific type of care, and they are more active.
They need to hire a good senior staff to run the property. They have turnover at the senior staff level, and there is fallout for the whole community. They have very high turnover. Upper management really needs to be improved. New chef is good, but that changes as. The people who do direct care do show that they care and show that they truly see the residents. Things like cleanliness, trash removal, etc, need some work. We've not been really happy with Virginia Place.

This is basically a nursing home trying to sell themselves as assisted/independent living. It reminded my mother so much a nursing home that she was panicking as it reminded of her a very bad experience with her mother. The sales person was also very pushy and I felt she was more interested in selling us on her facility than making sure my mother ended up in a place that was good for her mental health. Honestly we should have left the second we walked in and saw the place.

The staff was excellent at answering question and making us feel welcome. Nicole Handled tough conversations with poise and honesty, not sugar coating the transition we are getting ready to make. The Facility is older, but maintained and clean. My rating reflects the fact that this was the first facility we visited.

My parent has been a resident for a couple of years, loved, loved, loved the place and the staff was SUPERB as Brookdale. Since changing ownership the vibe and feeling of a home away from is long gone, as well as existing staff. It was a team environment that gave you a comfort knowing your love one was well taken care of. Activities have been reduce and security in my opinion has been compromised! I'm currently looking for a new place for my parent, the new management style of Virgina place is not to my liking.

We really enjoyed our tour at this facility. [Name removed], who worked there at the time and has been promoted, has a true heart for the residents there. It is a small facility and affordable for someone on a fixed income. The rooms were spacious enough and we were able to see someone's room versus just a room model. It gave us a better idea of what a room can look like that is lived in. Out of all the places we have looked at and that my mother may be able to afford, this was my favorite.

This community was good to my cousin the staff was good to her and to us. She enjoyed her daily activities. The food is good they had a main dish then also alternatives. I really liked Virginia Place the rooms were very nice and clean, building well taken care of, and staff extremely helpful. Unfortunately our cousin took a turn for the worse and is undergoing IV treatment for a bone infection. Doctors feel this will be an ongoing issue so with the pic line treatments Virginia place is unable to accommodate her.
