Assisted Living

An assisted living facility is an organized living community which provides supervision, support, and care to medically stable persons who do not require skilled nursing care. Assisted living facilities usually offer help with the activities of daily life, aid with transit and appointments, and chances for social activity. In some situations, facilities may offer skilled nursing care, hospice, or respite. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around 49,200. The state of Indiana maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of facility. Indiana State Department of Health supervises this facility type. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include preparation of prescribed medications, distribution of perscribed medications, and Medications may be administered under physician's order by licensed nursing personnel or qualified medication aides. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as facility will identify scope of care based on evaluation, a negotiated risk plan will be established, A comprehensive assessment, and evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs. facilities must consider residents' personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident's room Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program.This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include activities and programs appropriate to residents' abilities and interests, scheduled transportation for community-based activities, identifying responses to actual or potential health conditions, and a nursing diagnosis. Staff are required to obtain training in a number of fields. These include: a review of the facility's policies and procedures, including evacuation procedures, resident needs, and resident care. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include facilities must provide three meals a day, facilities must consider residents' reasonable religious preferences, facilities must consider residents' food allergies, and Facilities must meet daily dietary requirements and requests.
