Our tour experience with Vitality Living of Stony Brook was excellent, but the location was too far and we were not willing to drive that with how often we wanted to be able to visit our loved one.
So far so good. It was a little cheaper than other places we looked at, and the staff are really good. The care is pretty good as well.
They have a new memory care director at this community and they are working very hard to make it good for people with dementia and Alzheimer's. They are working hard to create a great atmosphere. They have an activity director that tries to gear the activities to what is happening in the world. They had a super bowl party and other themed parties to match what is going on. They also have puzzles and more and things that the residents like to do.
The facility is very nice, clean and decorated nicely.. the staff and residents are very nice.
My advisor was amazing. She checked on our progress and always found us an answer for all our questions. So glad we found A Place for Mom.
My loved one did not participate in the activities often but they did have a lot to do. I really do like this community but they are selling and transferring to another company currently and a lot of people are just unsure of whats to come.
We chose Atria Stony Brook because of the affordability and also they provided the services that he needed at the time. Given the covid situation, I think the staff are doing the best that they can. It has had an impact, but they are doing a great job considering the limitations. I would recommend them to others looking.
It's nice that they have their own apartments in assisted living. The washing machine is right there for them in their apartments, and they have their own outdoor areas. Housekeeping is provided. The staff have been really nice to my loved one. Activities have been a little slow due to Covid, but they're starting back up. They've had a band come in, and they've had happy hours and dancing. It took her a while to get used to it, but she's adjusting. The cost is high. Be prepared for different levels of care to be a large increase in monthly cost. But that being said, they're one of the cheapest places, especially considering she gets a whole apartment instead of just one room. And her mental health has improved tremendously since she's moved in. She doesn't need a lot of care at this point, but she gets the extra help that she needs and has the opportunity to be social. There are always people to talk to, and she can do as little or as much as she wants. That's a big plus.
The community is neat and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They have lots of activities for the residents to participate in and the food is good too. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.
It's a very nice place, and I would recommend it. I would say definitely go and check it out for your family. It's really a lot like an apartment, some 1-bedroom, some open-plan, and the bathrooms are nice. But the residents also have the benefits of assisted living. They wear a watch with a call button they can press for help if they need it. It's always clean when I come to visit, and I've never noticed any smells. They clean the residents rooms and provide assistance with showers, medications, things like that. They show concern for the residents, and if my loved one doesn't feel well, they'll check on her. They're very good about that. The staff really are very nice people. My loved one gets along well with everyone there and seems to be pleased. They're very friendly to me as well. They've been very conscientious with Covid protocol, which is good. They require masks, inquire about status of shots, and test visitors for fever. Activities have been curtailed a bit, but they're doing the best they can. I think the cost here is very reasonable.
Our virtual tour was great. We toured during Covid, so that was difficult for them as well as us, but they did the best they could. I found them to be very friendly, and I thought they had great follow-up.
They put her in assisted living when I told them she needed memory care. She did not want to come back here and I told them that she was going to be moving out. They said that I would have had to have it in writing so I paid about 3 months and she was only here a week. They were not helpful or did not work with us. We did not have a good experience here and I would not recommend them to anybody looking.

All my ratings are based on prior to COVID. The common areas and my loved one's room is always clean when I go in to visit my loved one. My loved one loves it here. Due to the pandemic this has caused a turnover of staff. The senior living has turned out better than we had expected. My loved one has a lot of residents and staff they consider as friends. I never worry about them being lonely.
My parent has been at Atria Stony Brook a little over a year. I can say that many things appealed to our family when we chose Atria Stony Brook. The staff all seem to have a genuine interest and sincerely care for their residents. Being in a smaller independent living community has been great for my dad. From the staff who greet you at the entrance, the staff who provide daily care services, the staff who work in the dining/kitchen and the Director of the facility, they are very professional and very caring. These past 8 months, during this pandemic, have been difficult due to State wide restrictions on all facilities. I can honestly say that the staff at Atria Stony Brook are very dedicated, very responsive and they truly care about their residents and their families. They focus on residents and family centered care!
The staff are very caring. My mother lived in assisted living for two years. In that 2 years her room rate went up 15% while her social security only went up 3%. Right now they are advertising the same room for 35% less than what my mother was paying in May 2020.
My Mom has been at Atria Stonybrook in memory care for over a year. I give them my highest 5 star review. I have no complaints. I feel her care is above and beyond. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy and she very much enjoys the view of the outside garden and gazebo from her room, and they often take her outside to stroll and sit there. Before Covid-19 they had enjoyable lunch and scenic drive outings twice a week and they convened often to the main dining room for music and entertainment. Meals are a pleasant experience where she sits at her favorite table. Dining as a guest is fun with the staff and other residents. The food is good and well balanced as well. They offer two menu choices, and my Mom who has often been choosy, has been eating well. I have watched them make sure the residents eat, and order them something else if they don't like what's on the menu to make sure they do eat something. They have implemented Corona Virus protocols from the start and stay on top of them. Even in memory care they have taken care to socially space the residents, which is especially difficult as their residents don't understand....and can't remember. That task alone is a challenge. Anytime I contact [name removed], the director of Memory Care, I usually get an immediate answer, or as soon as she is free she texts or calls me back; even after hours! She also randomly sends me texts and pictures with updates on Mom. Before the virus I was able to visit often. The staff is super friendly, efficient and takes alot of time with Mom. They keep me well informed. [name removed], the activities director, is amazing at getting all the residents involved, and even goes to Moms room to invite her, if she's not out in the living room. The activities she comes up with are creative and fun, and she makes getting them some exercise fun too. I want to call out [names removed] for taking such good care of her daily needs. Little things like dentures are always cleaned and put in. She strongly resists showers and they get her bathed twice a week, as requested by me. They even talk her into washing her hair, when during the virus the hairdresser was unavailable. And they even go so far as to coax my Mom into wearing clothes that go together and fasten her favorite necklaces on her! They also stay on top of her laundry and check her closet where my Mom tends to rehang her worn clothes. Becky, our cleaning gal, always has Moms room clean. I send Mom fresh flowers often and [name removed] even gives them fresh water and removes them when needed. My brother and I feel like we could not have made a better choice here in Louisville, KY. During these tough times we miss her, but feel assured that she is well taken care of. From the beginning I was impressed that everyone calls me by name, and everytime I breeze thru and they see me they greet me. Always nice to see you too...[names removed]...and the list goes on. [names removed] at the front desk are always inviting and cheerful and these days greet me outside when I drop flowers and such off. I thank them all.
Everything would be perfect if it hadn’t been for the shutdowns necessitated by Covid-19. Those have made me second guess our decision to move Mom from her home, but overall we still feel she has been safer there than all alone at home. We just continue to pray that people stop ignoring this epidemic, and do the right thing by simply wearing masks.
My mom has lived in the Life Guidance (memory care) area of Atria for almost five years, and it has proven to be a good fit. Although there has been turnover during that time, the staff have always been experienced, kind and helpful. I believe they have not only cared FOR my mom, they have also cared ABOUT her. Directors have regularly been present and interacting with residents, and have always been available to answer a question or address a need. They make an effort to know all of the residents and take the time to talk to them in a personal way when they see them. The building has always been well kept, comfortable and very clean. During the recent Covid epidemic Atria leaders and staff have done a very good job in keeping residents safe and healthy. Moving my mother into Atria Life Guidance was a very good decision!
Atria Stony Brook was an excellent choice for my mother. The staff is friendly and all the residents were very welcoming. COVID-19 has been a challenge for everyone and especially for the staff and residents at senior living facilities. Mom has always felt safe.
