I tell anyone who might need a place they can trust to visit Riverbend. The staff are all marvelous. I haven't met one staff member who acts like they're just working a job. Most of them seem to be serving the residents with servant's hearts. They step up and do things they notice, even if it's not in their particular job description. ( I've seen this from multiple staff.) The staff is loyal, most of them have worked at Riverbend for many years. They all work hard, but they seem to have enough staff, another great indicator. If you're treating your staff well, you have less turnover and more loyalty. Housekeeping works hard. I see them vacuuming and dusting all the time. The hallways always smell fresh. Communication with the family is fabulous, too! They really go the extra mile to keep you in the loop! The move in process was smooth. They loan carts and hand trucks to you and open the closest entryway for better access. The activities are marvelous. The state ended funding for activities. I think it may have been a grant which ran out, but Riverbend didn't want to lose the Activities Director, so they hired her to stay!!! She's marvelous and has facility-wide fun days and seeks to get residents and families alike to participate. The activity schedule is jam-packed and she tries to include a variety. They celebrate with the community, too. Alzheimer's Awareness, Elvis Presley week, Veterans Day, often and meaningfully! The food is served restaurant style and is really good. Multiple residents stopped us to brag on the food when we first visited. They offer more than one option for each meal and have about 6 or 8 staple options available for each meal if you'd prefer. The kitchen and wait staff are caring and just marvelous. During meals, you might see a variety of other staff pitching in, mopping or clearing tables. No one person is above anything which needs attention. I would encourage everyone to go visit. The only negative might be that they could definitely use new carpet in the hallways. BUT--- if they're paying this fabulous staff more instead of replacing the carpet---it's money well spent. I just mention this to be fully transparent. When we saw the way the residents were genuinely being treated like family, we no longer noticed the carpet! I highly recommend Riverbend, you'll be able to relax and know someone trustworthy and loving is watching over your loved one!... Read more

Based on the experience we have had so far, we can say there is room for improvement especially when it comes to following through on the care plan with the front line staff team.

We toured Riverbend when searching for an Assisted Living facility for our loved one. This facility was nice. The cleanliness and friendliness was good. However, it was too far from home for us.

August 16, 2023Thank you for your visit!
I was not impressed. They didn't give us a tour. They only shared us the lobby area.

My mother-in-law is staying in the memory care at Riverbend. She is very happy. The staff there is a wonder fall to their patients. [name removed], she’s a coordinator and she has wonderful activities for them and she also send pictures to us as my mother-in-law. Doing activities. Valentines was wonderful. My mother-in-law did a fashion show. They had a Valentine's party and a board for a hearts and balloons where she could take pictures and a big card hold an app saying happy Valentine’s Day.

June 7, 2023Thank you for your review, Ricki! Our staff work hard to make Riverbend a home-like community for all our residents.
Caring environment. Friendly staff. Love the Magnolia Trails program. Residents appear happy. Have seen other memory care units that appear more like a nursing home. Riverbend has more of a cottage feel - warm and welcoming.

Good community. We needed something immediately and they didn't have availability that we needed.
So far our experience has been a positive one. The staff communication with the family is good. Some of the care provided by the community includes medication management, and bathing assistance.

I was advised that a care plan was put into place for my mother but it did not happen right away. After I brought it to their attention they took care of it and cleared everything up. The activities director is awesome at this community.

My family member is astute and has lived at Riverbend for several years. We have experienced several key staff turnover, including directors and activities folks. Dietary switches too often to count. Meal planning has waned - anyone that is diabetic cannot eat appropriately here. There are a lack of choices and a lack of understanding about nutritional needs for diabetics. The current executive director is unapproachable and had been there for several months before meeting residents. A lack of communication and a perception of an uncaring environment is what we have now. Moving our family member would be difficult on her - however it is much debated and discussed. If you have a chance to go somewhere else, do it. They don’t have WiFi, they have a bus, but residents don’t get to go out (this is even pre-pandemic). Our family member has missed many things and we have had to follow up multiple times on the most basic of needs. The current director is defensive and borderline rude.

September 22, 2021Hi Ann T, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience. We are disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with your visit. We will take this opportunity to evaluate and focus on training for staff to make improvements. If you are willing to give us another chance, p lease reach out to us at (812) 280-0965 to speak to our manager directly.
We toured this community and the tour was very good. The community is very neat and clean and the staff was very friendly and shared a lot of great information. The tour was well done and They answered all our questions.
I would tell others that it has been very difficult during covid because when we moved her in, they did not want us in there so we have not been inside the facility. It is not the normal procedure with all of the covid protocols so it has not been a great experience. I am excited for it to open up so we can really judge how the facility is.

These prices are not even close to what they charge, much higher. My mother-in-law died at this fac due to a fall and wasn;t even found for many hrs after. This happened in July 2019. Just saying we made a bad decision.

My father stayed at the assisted living for approximately 2 months. He was very isolated did not do well! Nurses and med asst were not friendly or careing. We also moved him into memory care unit. He done very poorly there also. Got very sick and had to be moved to another nursing home after 2 months , because memory care unit nurses could not monitors IV medication . Once moved to Providence my dad was very sick and never recovered. The nursing staff informed me my dad had fecal matter under both fingernails which had to be soaked to get out. Do Not Send A Loved One Here!!!

Only take your loved one here if they are content to sit in a chair or sleep all day. I saw very little ongoing interaction with the residents. The staff sit in a room and observe the residents through a glass wall. As if they were in a prison. They say there are activities all day for the residence to keep their mind active. This is not true. They have a calendar of events but these are frequently canceled. The say say they there a courtyard for the residents to enjoy and even garden and plant flowers.. But it is almost always locked. When my mother would ask to go outside they refused. Telling her that the didn’t have the staff to accompany her. They would give my mother a sleeping pill at 7 pm and put her to bed when the sun was still up. When I ask them to do that later in the evening the response was “I will put it in her chart” but nothing changed. When I ask that when there was actually an activity for them to let her know and show her where to go, I again got “ we’ll put it in her chart. But nothing changed. My mother constantly complained of being bored. Eventually she started having attention seeking behaviors. Instead of working with her to keep her entertained they wanted her medicated. I wrote an email to the management about my concerns regarding her care , that they were not providing what we were promised before we moved Mom there. The response was they would look into it and get back to me. They never did. They gave medication one day to work . When it didn’t they insisted on sending her to a psychiatric facility where her care was even worse. She will be buried next week. She only lived at Riverbend for 2 months.

Everything is going great so far with the short amount of time that my love one has been here. She has definitely adjusted well and she is surrounded by smiling faces. Everyone there on staff is nice and welcoming; also with the old ladies there. This location just felt so comfortable and so welcoming when I first walked in. Every resident that I spoke with, with the exception of one, they told me that they all loved it there. I am so happy with them and I absolutely recommend.

A Place for Mom has scored Riverbend 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
