Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care for your loved one who may require a helping hand with things such as mobility or washing. The types of service provided often include aid with ADLs. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In select situations, communities may offer respite, dementia care, or hospice. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation supervises this type of community. Staff members receive training in a number of subjects. These areas include emergency evacuation, resident abuse, neglect, and and exploitation, providing assistance with activities of daily living, and resident behavior and needs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents preferences, and meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities . There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living , personal care services, nursing services, and assistance with self-administration of medications. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, and unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as communities must document such assessment, monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , medical examination report, and community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community .
