It's new, every room is fire safe, and the staff did an excellent job talking to [name removed], and answering all his questions.

Everyone is soooo nice. Housekeeping is wonderful! The move in process was very smooth. The meals are very good quality, but the only thing that doesn't really work for us is the meal point allotment. It's a...
Creating a multi-acre senior living community in the very heart of a highly desirable area like Lincolnwood is a rare opportunity. While only minutes from businesses and shopping, cultural opportunities, houses of worship and medical and professional offices, the landscaped 13-acre,...

The staff and the residents at The Variel of Woodland Hills are friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping is weekly. The move in process went smoothly. They offer a variety of food choices. I would recommend this...

My mother-in-law is in the Independent Living area. Her apartment is great with brand new kitchens and baths. The front desk staff takes good care of her and they have great amenities. The food service has been terrible. They change chefs constantly, no consistency in the food, she gets it delivered hours later or they forget to deliver until she calls and she never spends her full food budget each month. Their communication on COVID has been lacking. We do see how many cases (the staff, memory care and assisted living had quite a few) but no updates on when my MIL will get the vaccine and we're already moving on to Phase 2 in IL. Still I feel she is safe and secure.

We chose The Carrington because we thought price was reasonable, the location, and the facility itself was very nice. The staff members were friendly. The food was superior and so was the food service hours. Overall, the first impression was nice but diminished as time went on. We did have issues with the food service and it ended up being more expensive than we thought and more complicated. Also, the assisted living facility was not inviting, independent living seemed great though. The reason I gave lower scores was because my mother took a fall and had to leave early and they charged us for the facility even though she was not using it. I wish they were a little more flexible. I would recommend for independent living, but not assisted living. The issues we had can all be addressed or corrected though.

Our move in experience was almost nonexistent! No one gave an orientation. I felt the staff was too busy selling or in meetings. The care members and food staff seem to change frequently. I feel they have great potential but lack the staff to make it happen

A gorgeous facility but completely understaffed on weekends. The memory care facility advertises great activities but they don't happen. My father has been there for 3 months and he's so bored. There just isn't enough for the residents to do and we're frequently told "we're understaffed" -- which is NOT okay. We pay over $[removed] a month, and we expected more. They need to find better qualified staff for memory care. [name removed]and [name removed]are fantastic (they run memory care) but they don't have enough qualified staff under them. We have complained and it gets better for a while, but then returns to status quo. In short - better educated staff (they need to learn more about dementia) and better activities are needed to make this a top facility. (Note: All of the staff is caring and compassionate but most don't have the tools to work with people with dementia. A little education would go a long way.) We know the facility is relatively new but we're losing our patience. We hope it improves!

Please do not fall for the sales pitch. They will woo you and smile pretty put the marketing team and management will do whatever it takes to get you in the door. You are better off keeping mom and dad at home and paying for a caregiver. It will cost so must less, but more importantly, they will be safer and better taken care off without their hard earned money falling into a never ending money pit. Every department is understaffed, once your family member is in the door, you better hope they can manage on their own- because that is what they will be. Do not trust what they tell you about assisted living or memory care. I have seen how they care or rather DO NOT care for them. They have been in the news before and the Carringto attributed it to a disgruntled employee. In actuality, many employees have complained about how our elderly are being treated. Once they get too verbal, they are terminated, Rare is the quality employee who stays in-spite of understaffing and underpayment
