Royal Oak is a small suburb with a big reputation located just a few miles north of Detroit. The city’s motto, “life now playing,” is fitting for such a busy town that has a little something for everyone. There are a number of popular nightlife spots in the city that offer a variety of entertainment options. Popular venues for musical performances include the Royal Oak Music Theatre and the Landmark Main Art Theatre. For fans of comedy, Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle is a famous club where comedians such as Tim Allen and Dave Coulier got their start. Fun fact, Tim Allen’s character on the TV show Home Improvement lives in Royal Oak. One of the best community theater troupes in the city is Stagecrafters. The group is based out of the Baldwin theater where they put on year round plays and musicals.

One of the most popular attractions in the city is the 125-acre Detroit Zoo, which is home to over 2,400 animals from 235 different species. The zoo features the Arctic Ring of Life exhibit including a 300,000 gallon aquarium that is home to 3 polar bears. The exhibit is one of the largest polar bear habitats in North America.
