Assisted living communities have the luxury of organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individualized help. The types of service provided often include help with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, Alzheimer’s care, or continuing care. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . Washington maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) regulates this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, practitioner, and not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast . This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services, medication administration provided through nurse delegation, and medication administration. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include general responsibility for each resident, basic personal care services, administration of health care treatments, and communities choose to provide certain health support services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as level of personal care needs, activities and service preferences, an initial comprehensive exam including medical history , and preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Staff members obtain training in a number of fields. These areas include orientation (2 hours), nurse delegation and core diabetes, First-aid and CPR, and basic training (70 hours).
