Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care for your loved one who may need support with things such as showering or self-administering medication. The services offered often involve assistance with ADLs. Residents may be kept under observation and evaluation. In select instances, communities may provide hospice, respite, or continuing care. Virginia maintains specific standards associated with this kind of community. The Virginia Department of Social Services regulates this community type. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program–Virginia Alzheimer s Assisted Living. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as Initial comprehensive assessment and develop a care plan with the input of the resident, family, direct care staff, case manager, and health care providers, as relevant. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include 24-hour supervision, Meet the service plan objectives, Promote a sense of security and self-worth, and Provide protection, guidance, and supervision. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include Residents may self-administer medications if they are capable, a licensed health care professionall must annually review all residents medications, and The community must have a medication management plan that is reviewed and approved by the Department.. Staff members obtain education in a number of subjects. These include: reporting requirements, hand-washing techniques, standard precautions, and infection risk reduction behavior, first-aid and cpr training, and Residents rights and responsibilities. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three nutritious meals must be provided each day, Periodic oversight of special diets by a dietitian or nutritionist, and bedtime and between meal snacks must be available.
