Assisted living communities administer care, social opportunities, and supervision to people who are around 65 years old. Services offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide dementia care, hospice, or “aging in place”. The state of Ohio maintains a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. Ohio Department of Health licenses this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance organizing medication, assistance opening and taking medication, and reminders. Staff members receive education in a number of areas. These areas include community procedures, residents rights, securing emergency assistance, and job responsibilities. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical diagnoses, psychical history, functional status assessment, and health history. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 8 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision, intermittent nursing services, assistance with self-administration of medication, and medication administration.
