Assisted Living

Assisted living communities arrange residential communities and assistance for persons who may require a helping hand with things such as preparing meals or washing. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, hospice, or skilled nursing. The state of Ohio has specific regulations related to this type of community. Ohio Department of Health supervises this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as cognitive status review, psychological history, psychical history, and functional status assessment. Staff must obtain training in a number of areas. These areas include community procedures, residents rights, job responsibilities, and securing emergency assistance. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medication, supervision, intermittent nursing services, and medication administration. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. In total, there can be no more than 4 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17.
