Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment-style housing and social events as well as individualized help. The types of service provided often include help with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In some cases, communities may provide “aging in place”, hospice, or respite. Ohio maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, medication administration, activities, and assistance with self-administration of medication. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as health history, psychical history, cognitive status review, and functional status assessment. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. The maximum occupancy is 4 residents per room.
