Assisted Living

Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and assistance for your loved one who may need help with showering or taking medication. Assisted living communities commonly provide assistance with transportation and appointments, outings for organized activity, and help with the activities of daily life. In certain instances, communities may offer dementia care, respite, or skilled nursing care. The state of Ohio has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. Ohio Department of Health regulates this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include activities, intermittent nursing services, personal care, and assistance with self-administration of medication. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical diagnoses, functional status assessment, psychological history, and cognitive status review. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include observation, verifying labels, and assistance organizing medication. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These areas include securing emergency assistance, community procedures, residents rights, and job responsibilities.
