Assisted living communities provide organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individual care. The services offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, continuing care, or nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this community type. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, and medication reminders. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include emergency response systems, medication administration, security, and medication reminders. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff are required to receive training in a number of fields. These include: privacy, confidentiality, philosophy and goals, and internal policies.
