Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide residential communities and aid for people who may need support with everyday activities such as taking medication or bathing. Assisted living communities usually offer help with appointments and transit, aid with daily activities, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, continuing care, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health certifies this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and A comprehensive assessment. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, emergency response systems, assistance with activities of daily living, and security.
