Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide apartment style housing and social interaction as well as individual help. Services provided often involve support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide “aging in place”, hospice, or skilled nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health regulates this community type. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, A comprehensive assessment, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, medication administration, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include laundry, assistance with activities of daily living, medication reminders, and non-medical services. Staff members receive training in a number of fields. These areas include hygiene, philosophy and goals, promotion of dignity, and residents’ need and service plans.
