Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid to seniors who may require help with everyday activities such as taking medication or dressing. The services provided often involve help with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes governs this type of community. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisted living care, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, the provision of assisted self-preservation, and described as personal services. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, assisting with an Epi pen, and assisting residents with storage of medications. Staff are required to receive education in a variety of fields. These include: provision of resident care that is individualized and helpful, general infection control principles, emergency first-aid and CPR, and Residents’ rights. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as personal preferences relative to care needs, assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs, and assessment to determine the resident’s functional capacity with regard to ADLs.
