Assisted living communities arrange residential communities and aid for persons who might need a helping hand with things such as self-administering medication or dressing. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must include an appropriate variety of foods, planned in consideration of cultural and religious backgrounds , meals must comply with residents’ dietary preference, meals must comply with diet prescribed by physicians, and the total daily diet must meet the recommended dietary allowances of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board. Staff members obtain training in a variety of areas. These areas include residents’ rights, 10 hours of initial training within the first 4 weeks of employment and 4 additional hours annually, knowledge required to safely assist with prescribed medications, and how to recognize early signs of illness. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day.
