This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include Alternate food selections must be available for residents on medically prescribed diets, meals must meet the Dietary Reference Intakes of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences, Snacks and beverages must be available throughout the day and after the evening meal, and communities must serve daily at least three meals. Staff are required to obtain education in a number of subjects. These areas include nutritional needs of the elderly, 19 years of age, advance directives, and signs and symptoms of dementia. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan of care developed by the community in cooperation with the resident and, if appropriate, their representative and medical examination by a physician prior to admission.
