They were very responsive. We went on three separate tours, and they accommodated us each time within 48 hours to get those scheduled. They were very accommodating in general, and answered all of our questions. The staff were very engaging, and they treated my loved one in particular with respect and kindness.
It has been entertaining to feel/watch the atmosphere change after corporate/regional is has to be reported to or coming for inspections very constantly. The staff and activities does so well working to keep activities to choose from so many tastes. I am so bothered by no separation of Independent and Assisted living. Other facilities do have separation - even buildings, connection alley. Psychology depressing
The employees at Brookdale University Park are friendly and helpful.
I have lived here for 12 years so I certainly am happy. Best thing about here is that everyone is friendly (residents and help). Yes, sometimes I'm not happy about meal, but I don't have to do the cooking or cleaning! We could use more employees but it is what it is!
Food tastes mostly like pablums pie slices are lunch at crust and down to 0 not enough servers in the restaurant. Food was excellent 4 years ago and a major reason to move in for many. Insect invasion constantly reappearing.
[Name removed] showed us 3 independent local living and 1 assisted living apartments. All were lovely. We especially like Brookdale’s location.
Brookdale is a very nice community. My mother has dementia and needs assistance with many things. I knew Brookdale was the right place when I toured and saw the caregivers interacting with the residents. That has been confirmed many times over as my mother has been there 3 months now. The nurses and caregivers offer excellent care. The residents are treated with respect and dignity. I visit up to 5 times a week and have never observed anything but the utmost professional care and honest concern for the well-being of the residents. The facility is always clean and the rooms are cleaned daily. The activities director is upbeat an energetic and just brings joy to everything she does. The nurses and caregivers spot any abnormalities (such as a urinary tract infection) and alert her doctor and me. It is a gated community and staff is on the ball - so I know it is safe and secure. The food is good and nutritious. My mother had dark circles around her eyes from her own poor nutrition at home and that has been cleared up completely. The staff communicates any needs or concerns with me without hesitation - which I appreciate. You will not be disappointed with Brookdale. The only complaint I have had has been that the cable in her room was not working properly, and it took quite a while for it to get resolved, but it is resolved now. Maintenance even mounted her TV on the wall for us.
My father spent 2 month recovering from a broken hip between [dates removed]. One of the worst expiences. Food was the worse. My father was diabetic and the staff never checked his chart. My father Lost 40 pounds during his stay. Normally we ordered out. The CNA’s are understaffed and unqualified. We expirenced poor care for my father to the point where we had to pay for 24 hour sitters costing our family over $7,000 over his stay. The administration was clueless. The nurses staff was understaffed. My fathers meds were changed often in the beginning which slowed my fathers progress. 2 nurse supervisors quite during my fathers stay. The administration tried compensating us by eating our Medicare copay. We were unaware that several families had removed there loved ones during our stay. The rehab staff was good. That was the only unit that seemed to work. We even filed a complaint with the state of Alabama. All of this was documented by our family and staff. I would never recommend facility for anyone.
The community was very clean and bright. Everyone we encountered seemed happy. Our contact person was very knowledgeable and if she didn’t know the answer to a question was willing to research and get back with us. Convenient location.
[Name removed] provided a tour for us. She was very helpful and patient in providing the tour of their facilities. Everyone we passed stopped to tell us how special [name removed] was to them. Beautiful very clean facility, Gated community, Allows for Independent Living to Assisted Living to Monitored Living as needed, Excellent balanced meals provided, Medical staff on-site, Rehab center on-site, On-site church services, Lots of secure sidewalks around the building for Mom to walk, Washer/Dryer combinations in every apartment, Open floorplans Residents must press a button in their apartment each morning by 10:00 am notifying security they are okay. If action does not occur, the staff checks on the resident.
The dining room upstairs has the caregiver staff giving out the food ! No one to watch the other patients who are in their rooms! The muses too busy trying to help the caregivers serve the dinner! And they say it’s been this way herre?! Can’t you afford a seperate staff to serve my friend and those else who live here’s dinner?! Not to mention that the caregivers were also washing the dishes?!?! So much for spending money where it counts !!
Very nice but a little out of my price range.
I loved this community when I went on my tour. The people I met were nice and the community is clean. The apartment they showed us was a two bedroom with a den that was nice. It is in a good location next to a lot of amenities.
My grandmother had a decent experience during her respite stay at this community. She likes most of the people of the there, but the was one bad situation. One of the staff members stole $200 out of her night stand. They did handle the situation well, and the employee was terminated. It is a pretty nice place, but that situation kind of put a damper on things overall.
Very welcoming on my tour.[Removed] was very helpful in answering my questions and showing me the apartments and options for my parents. The residents seemed happy and content and the amenities are very nice. A definite possibility for my folks! (I am rating "4 stars" only because I do not yet have a family member living here)
It is still a work in progress for my mother since her move to this community, but so far all is well. We have had a few problems in the beginning, but they are very wiling to work with us. The staff overall is helpful and attentive. They have pretty good activities for the residents. The food is good, she is satisfied with the meals. I'am hoping things continues to go in a positive direction for us here at this community.
Brookdale University Park has many common areas like their barber shop, a golf course and meeting room. The tour guide that showed me around was knowledgeable and answered my questions. I liked the layout of the community it was clean and everything was put together good.
My father was put into their "Skilled Nursing" rehabilitation center after spending two weeks in a hospital for a heart attack. The care he receives from Brookdale has been shoddy at best. One CNA for nine patients and one nurse on each wing. They constantly tell family members that "they have taken care of it" when you call on the phone, but forgetting that family members are standing in my father's room when the call has been made and nothing has been "taken care of". Whatever you do... do NOT go to Brookdale. Having an adult wait to have bathroom assistance for anywhere from 10 minutes to 1/2 an hour is not acceptable (and this is after they have been notified that there is a situation). As far as cleanliness... what ever they use to mop floors with caused a CNA to slip in my fathers room. Friendliness? I have had a good relationship there with one and only one nurse administrator - and she is the boss above bosses. Sure, the value is great because Medicare completely covers my Dad's care for 20 days. We are already looking to move him and it hasn't been a week since he arrived.
Brookdale Unversity Park is going really good. Mom loves it. i really cant tell you bad things about it. There are some maintenance things here and there. But the care and the facility is phenomenal. She is definitely getting the care that she needs. It is worth the money. She doesn't lack for something to do here either. They have all kinds of welcome lunches. They take them places. The care services are above average. We didn't even ask and they had people from physical therapy come in and evaluate her. They were proactive in taking care of any needs she has. They called me and informed me of everything and let me know that her medicaid would cover everything. This facility is the furthest one from me that we could of picked but I have no problems because I know she is taken care of here. I would definitely recommend it for anyone that can afford it.
We had a very good experience with Brookdale Place University Park. It is a very nice and clean facility, and all the staff there was extremely helpful.
